Just as the Paragon stepped through the wooden archway that marked off the garden entrance, I saw movement in the shadows of the castle-house. We climbed the stairs of a gorgeous patio, only to descend them on the other side as he led me into a tall garden walled in by huge hedges. “You’re going to be dead if you insist on acting fearless and still stick to your moral code,” the Paragon grumbled. ![]() You could have made them hold their tongues with the magic of the Court.” The Paragon sourly scrunched up his lips. “Since they’re never going to like me, it’d be better to show them that I don’t care that they don’t like me. “Or even worse, you are fearless! This novel was such a fantastic exploration on trauma, guilt, and how people transform once they're in a life threatening situation. I love solving something correctly to boost my ego a bit, while also having to scrape my jaw off the floor at times it’s the perfect combination! There must be some kind of magic in this book, because how in the world can you write 400 pages in the same setting, over just 8 hours, and somehow make it a page turner? A risk was taken, and the payoff was amazing! I think the secret and at least one of the reveals was a bit obvious, but I was shocked by the other plot twists and the balance between the two was incredibly enjoyable. ![]() Could I be the victim of a sudden paper allergy? Some would be overt, like self-help and business books, but others would be about self-care when we need a really light read in a heavy world, and others would be about choosing books that have relatable characters or that inform us about a part of existence that we don’t know well enough.
